Nestled in the heart of Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai offers a blend of ancient charm and modern city life.

Strolling around Chiang Mai’s city center, you cannot help but be captivated by the beauty of its temples. From the iconic Wat Phra Singh to the majestic Wat Chedi Luang, each temple is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and tells a story of centuries-old traditions.

But the real magic lies in the hidden corners of Chiang Mai’s old town. As you wander through its streets, you’ll stumble upon quiet gardens and tiny temples tucked away from the crowds, each with its own unique character. These peaceful spots, adorned with blooming flowers and intricate statues, provide the perfect backdrop for quiet contemplation and peaceful reflection.

While all the over 30 temples in Chiang Mai’s city center are undoubtedly stunning, however, there are a few that hold a special place in my heart:

  1. Wat Phra Singh: One of the most revered temples in Chiang Mai, Wat Phra Singh houses a beautiful Lanna-style Buddha image and impressive murals.
  2. Wat Chiang Man: As the oldest temple in Chiang Mai, Wat Chiang Man holds immense historical and cultural significance. Visitors can admire its ancient chedi and exquisite architectural details, including intricate stucco carvings and beautiful murals.
  3. Wat Chedi Luang: This ancient temple features a towering chedi (stupa) that dates back to the 14th century and that was partially destroyed by an earthquake.
  4. Wat Phan Tao: This charming wooden temple near Wat Chedi Luang is a hidden gem. Its intricate wood carvings and peaceful ambiance make it a delightful spot to escape the crowds.
  5. Wat Lok Molee: surrounded by gardens and trees, this temple is a peaceful place to relax and reflect. The temple’s ancient chedi and ornate decorations offer a glimpse into Chiang Mai’s cultural heritage.
